Renting out a holiday home in the canton of Jura: what applies?
Guest registration
Anyone who accommodates guests, including in a holiday flat, enters guest data daily on Jura Tourisme’s online platform (Check-in JU). Without a hospitality licence, name, first name, date of birth, nationality, place of birth, address, and arrival and departure dates are sufficient. The platform is also used to manage the tourist tax and the Jura Pass for guests; data is deleted after two years.
- Deadline: Record data daily; validate the previous month’s tourist tax data by the 5th.
- How: Jura Tourisme’s Check-in JU online platform.
- Legal basis: Art. 14 LTour (RSJU 935.211); Art. 4 OTour (RSJU 935.211.1, version in force since 1 January 2026); Art. 31 LAub (RSJU 935.11), Art. 27 OAub; Art. 16 FNIA
Tourist tax and levies
CHF 3.00 per person per night throughout the canton, including in holiday flats and guest rooms. Exemptions include people under 16 and anyone liable for tax in the municipality. Owners pay nothing for their own use of a second home, but their tenants do. The landlord collects the tax and is liable for it; Jura Tourisme checks monthly and issues an invoice, payable within 30 days. On application, a flat rate based on floor area is available: CHF 10.80 per m² per year, minimum CHF 1'000.
- Who collects: Jura Tourisme on behalf of the canton; 20 per cent goes to the municipalities.
- Cantonal levy: The tourist tax itself is set at cantonal level (statutory range CHF 1.50–5.00).
- Legal basis: Art. 10–17 LTur (RSJU 935.211); Art. 3–7 OTour; Order setting the tourist tax (RSJU 935.211.61)
