Open data: download tourist tax rates and cantonal rules

What files are available?

What fields does the CSV file contain?

  • bfs: municipality number from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office
  • gemeinde, kanton: municipality name and canton abbreviation
  • gueltig_ab, gueltig_bis: period during which the rule applies. Blank means open-ended.
  • modell: per_person_night (per person per night), flat_rate (flat rate), choice (selectable) or none (no tourist tax)
  • erwachsene_chf: adult rate per night in CHF
  • altersbaender: age bands and rates, for example 0-11:0.00 12-:4.20
  • quelle: link to the regulations or information sheet
  • verifiziert: true if we have checked the rule individually with the municipality

The JSON files also include the fields «stand» and «lizenz». In kurtaxe.json, each municipality has all its rules, including billing (frequency, recipient and method) and cantonal levies.

How up to date is the data?

The data is current as of 6 November 2026; each file gives the date in the «stand» field. The tourist tax rates come from municipal regulations (research carried out in October 2026), and the cantonal rules from laws and official websites (research carried out in November 2026). We review legal updates and news every month.

How should you cite the data?

Credit Stovita as the source, and include a link, the date and the licence. For example:

Source: Stovita, tourist tax rates for Swiss holiday destinations, as of 6 November 2026, stovita.com/daten/kurtaxe.json, licence CC BY 4.0.

If you have changed the data, say that it has been modified. The same applies to articles and AI answers: credit Stovita and link to the page for the place or canton, such as tourist tax or legal information.

Which source is authoritative?

The data is a summary, not legal advice. The municipality’s regulations and the canton’s law are authoritative. The source is included in every data record.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the data commercially?

Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows any use, including commercial use, as long as you credit Stovita as the source, state the licence and identify any changes.

How often are the files updated?

With every new version of the website. The date is shown in the «stand» field in each file. We review legal updates and news every month.

Why isn’t my municipality included?

The data currently covers more than 200 holiday destinations. We haven’t yet added the rules for other municipalities. Ask your municipality or send us the regulations at hallo@stovita.com.

Are the rates legally binding?

No. The municipality’s regulations and bill are authoritative. We link to the source in every data record so you can check it.
