City of Thun Tourist Tax Regulations (SSG 935.214, in force from 1 May 2005) and Ordinance on Tourist Tax Rates (SSG 154.212.02, version of 18 October/24 November 2017, in force from 1 February 2018). Collected by Thun-Thunersee Tourismus. Landlords act as tax representatives, are jointly liable and must remit the tax by the end of the following month. Owners and long-term tenants pay an annual flat rate of CHF 85 per room for personal use (on request by 31 January, based on actual nights); nights rented to third parties are subject to the standard tourist tax. Exemptions include guests staying in the home of a Thun host, children under 6, military personnel and civil defence, hospital and care-home patients, trainees, and weekly and short-term residents. There is also a cantonal accommodation levy of CHF 1.00 per night for guests aged 16 and over (TEG Arts 20–22), payable by the landlord; according to the TTST fact sheet of 27 May 2025, it must not be charged to guests, so it is not recorded as a guest charge. Guest cards are issued after guests have been correctly registered.
